Description
In spite of the Pandemic, this work was exhibited digitally on a large HD screen at the Swiss Art Expo 2020, held at the SBB Event Hall in Zurich/Switzerland, where approximately 80,000 visitors could appreciate my work, among others, daily.
Work created during the first Global lockdown in spring 2020. It symbolically articulates my feelings about a world of darkening skies, forever changed by the global pandemic. Menacing clouds covering the face of the Moon indicate an Earth in distress; disquieted and motionless, as if a pause-button has activated a perpetual stillness. The main focus of the composition is the clock, with its multifaceted symbolism dressed in an architectural vignette. It alludes to institutions closed and communities in crisis. A white ceramic vase with blue flowers hints at the source of the pandemic, while the old fashioned spectacles precariously perched at the edge of the shelf symbolize our most vulnerable and hard hit population, the elderly. This work departs from my usually privileged satire, and narrates my impression of isolation and our world’s vulnerability in spite of its riches, suddenly irrelevant. Only the natural world thrives, freed from human interference, as represented by the bird. Executed in acrylic on canvas, May 2020.
