Description
A glorious autumn day ... white clouds race against a sapphire sky ... a dilapidated but graceful old barn is framed by the oranges and golds of tall, sun-filled trees, carefully and artfully planted. The once-proud, once beautiful barn stands at the edge of historic Antietam battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The detailing of the exotic cupolas, one of the three snapped at its base, is evidence of the barn's long ago lovely lines. Through the large loading window we see a peek of color from the glowing autumn trees beyond ... visible only because the opposite wall has crumbled to earth.
I can't help wondering what this barn witnessed over a hundred and fifty years ago, September of 1862. I tried to find some history about it. I've been unsuccessful so far, but plan to learn more and update this post soon.
Fine art purchases of this image will not include a watermark, and if I may make a recommendation ... this image will look its very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."

Hi Lois - great image and wonderfully written description. I've spent many hours at the Battlefield and it remains my favorite of all that I've been privileged to visit. If you can, please let me know where the barn is located and perhaps I can dresge up some info. - Mike (V/F)
